News from our Principal, Mr. Hostetler
Spring Fever is in the air! I know the students and staff are looking forward to Spring Break! I hope you all have an enjoyable break. I know we are all ready to get outside for some much needed fresh air. Please remember that while getting outside and enjoying nature is important to students, we also need to remember that school is still in session through May 23rd. Please make sure that your child spends time reading each day and completing any schoolwork. It is important to end the school year strong! Also, please remember your child will be required to wear a jacket for recess if the temperature is not 60 degrees or warmer. Finally, although flip flops are comfortable for many, we encourage sending them in tennis shoes or shoes that will keep their feet warmer during these constantly changing spring days.
Traffic Safety
As you drop off your child in the mornings, please be sure that student safety is kept in mind. Vehicles should remain in the drop-off lane all the way through the line. This means that parents should not drop off their students and then pull out of the line into the drive-through lane. Following these simple procedures will help keep everyone safe.

The MCS Art Show will be on May 10th at Northridge High School.
Registration Day - Back to School Night
Please plan to come to MES on August 7th (time TBD) to pick up your child's 2024-2025 registration packet with forms that need updating for the upcoming school year. This day will be "drive through" style as in years past. All forms should be completed at home and returned to school on Back to School Night or the first day of school. This is also the day your child will learn who their teacher will be for the fall.
Our Back to School Night is August 12th, and your child can meet their teacher and see their classroom. Back to School Night is from 5:15 - 6:30. The first day of school will be Wednesday, August 14th - late start Wednesday.
POLICY ON TEACHER REQUESTS (Parent Input Form)
As we begin to prepare for the 2024-25 school year, we would like to remind you of the policy of requesting teachers. Please know that if you would like to give us information about your child, there is a form available to download ON THE MES WEBSITE or in the office. This form is the only communication channel that will be accepted. The form will focus on the strengths and needs of your child. To stay in accordance with the district policy, you may include a teacher's name on the form as a parent request. There are never any guarantees for a teacher request because there are many variables that occur when we place students in classrooms for the following school year. We would ask that you trust our professional judgment on what is best for ALL children and want you to know that we take this process seriously. During the month of May, Mr. Hostetler will be meeting with each grade level to determine the placement of students for the 2024-25 school year; if you choose to fill out a form from the office it must be returned NO LATER than Friday, May 3, 2024. If you have specific questions, please call Mr. Hostetler at the MES office.
News from Mrs. Gleim, Our Nurse:
We are having another visit from School Smiles - the mobile dentist on April 30th. If your child was seen in the fall, they will automatically be scheduled for a return visit. Regardless of dental insurance coverage, any student can participate in this convenient service! If you would like to sign your child up to be seen, click here or call the school for a paper form.

Morning Transportation Changes
If you have last minute transportation changes in the mornings (for example, on 2 hour delay days), then a call needs to be made to Transportation @ 574-825-9410 or to your child's bus driver.
2024-2025 Bus Transportation
Your efforts to keep Transportation updated with your student's bus needs helps us to provide efficient bus service for as many students as possible. Transportation changes can be submitted online, on our webpage. This includes indicating if your child will NO LONGER be a bus rider, as that will allow another student to ride, as we manage restricted student capacities and a shortage of bus drivers. If there are no changes from this year to the next, a new form is not required.
IF YOUR STUDENT 'S BUSING NEEDS CHANGE FOR NEXT YEAR, PLEASE SUBMIT A 2024-2025 TRANSPORTATION REQUEST FORM.
Also, please remember to have requests submitted by July 12, 2024. Any change made after that date WILL NOT BE GUARANTEED A BUS RIDE ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.

Video Clip of the Month - Demolition Time!
Mrs. Scott's and Mrs. Shuler's classes had a front row view of the demolition of the house next door to the school. The classes enjoyed the day watching the house quickly come down and then wrote about it.
Hello from the Middlebury Elementary PTO! We want to extend a giant thank you to everyone who came together to support our school at the recent Chicken Dinner fundraiser. We were excited to see so many of you, and so grateful for the support from community businesses, staff members, and families that helped contribute goods for baskets, auction items, and most importantly their time! It was a great night, and we are glad to have shared it with you! We also would like to thank those of you who participated in our Hacienda Give back Night. The bean art the students displayed with the guidance of Mrs. Rusk was the highlight of the night!
Our next PTO meeting is Wednesday, April 17th at 3:30 and Childcare is available during the meeting. We would love to see you and hear your feedback from our recent events, as well as discuss your thoughts on upcoming events! Don’t forget to mention us if you go to Old Hoosier Meats the first Thursday of the month.
This month's Middie Staff Spotlight winner is our Art teacher, Mrs. Heather Rusk! She was nominated by a student who said, "Art is my favorite class!" Here is what Mrs. Rusk has to share about herself:
I live with my husband Greg, and our twin daughters, Hannah and Taylor. They are juniors at Northridge HS. We have 2 mini golden doodles, Rizzo and Oliver. We have lived in northern Indiana for 5 years. Before that we lived in Kansas, the Netherlands, and Illinois. We enjoy traveling to new places. Both of my girls play volleyball - Go Raiders! In my free time I like to garden and upcycle random things! I have only taught art for 3 years at OVE and 2 years at MES. I love seeing new ideas come together in creative (often messy) ways. Trying new projects is always exciting for me! Keep being creative 😉
Thank you, Mrs. Rusk, for sharing your love of Art with your students! We appreciate you and all your hard work!
