News from our Principal, Mr. Hostetler:

Welcome back to another school year! I hope all of you had a wonderful summer and are ready to get back to school. The beginning of the school year is an exciting time to reconnect with old friends, meet new friends, and share stories from our summer adventures.

We don't have any changes in our start/end time or drop-off/pick-up procedures this year. Doors open at 7:25 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Doors open at 7:50 on Wednesday. Be cautious of when you drop off your child. With many families dropping off, the line can get long. We need to make sure we are not blocking traffic on Main Street. Please do not come too early. We will not be letting students into the building before the posted times.

We invite volunteers, friends, and family members into our building. However, our number one focus is safety. Everyone will need a background check (found here) to be with students in the building or to go on a field trip. You will also need to present an ID or driver's license to the office upon checking in to the building. We use the Raptor security system to run a quick scan for outstanding issues and print a visitor badge. If you do not have internet access, you can fill out the form at MES.

As usual, our goal is to partner with you to give your child as many opportunities as possible to make the year successful. We have an amazing PTO who supports us in a variety of ways and plans for fun community events. We are looking for more parents to join our PTO. You can connect with them through their MES PTO Facebook page or contact the school.

I look forward to a great year!

PE NEWS FROM MRS. FREY

Welcome Back!  I'm excited to start a new year and see everyone again.  Just a reminder, please make sure that your child has a pair of shoes he/she can leave at school for PE.  We want your child to be able to participate in class and wearing boots, dress shoes, flip flops, etc... May prohibit that.  We also need to take care of our gym floor.  No black soled shoes please.  If you need assistance with gym shoes please contact me or the school nurse.  We would be happy to help.  Thank you!

LIBRARY NEWS FROM MRS. DAVIS

Welcome Back Students. I look forward to seeing you in the library!

This year we have library classes on Mondays and Tuesdays. You will get to keep your book(s) for one week and return it by the following library class. Parents, please help your child keep their book(s) in a safe place away from small children and pets. New books may not be checked out until previous books are returned. Thank you for your help.

I look forward to a wonderful school year.

NEWS FROM OUR NURSE, MRS. GLEIM

Welcome back Middies! I hope you all had a fun and relaxing summer.

Please keep a seasonally appropriate change of clothes in your child's backpack. Accidents, spills, and messes happen and I don't always have all sizes available to borrow.

I could use neutral short sleeve t-shirts in sizes youth large and youth x-large if you're cleaning out the closets.

Middlebury Schools needs substitute nurses!! If you or someone you know is an RN and would be interested I'd be happy to talk about it with you!

PTO

Back to school season is upon us! We hope everyone’s transition back into the school time routine goes smoothly.  If you want to be more involved and are interested in supporting Middlebury Elementary School in new ways, we invite you to come check out the PTO. We meet once a month on the Third Wednesday, and the next meeting is scheduled for August 21st at 3:30. Childcare for ages 4 and up is available during the meeting. There is a form coming out to get involved in other ways if you cannot attend the meetings. Our annual Mum fundraiser is in full swing! Order forms are due 8-21-24, and your beautiful mums will be available from Homeland Gardens on August 29th, from 1-5:00 PM.  We are looking forward to a great year together. Don’t forget to mention Middlebury Elementary at Old Hoosier the first Thursday of the month to help support our school!
