News from our Principal, Mr. Hostetler:
As the 2023-2024 school year comes to an end, I would like to thank all of the students, parents, and staff members for making this year successful. We had a great year and I truly enjoyed it! Please remember that "Educating Everyone Involves Everyone." Your help and support are appreciated and encouraged. There are many ways for parents and the community to help in the development and growth of each child. Our PTO is open and willing to assist in many different ways through fundraisers and fun activities. It is my hope that EVERY parent will donate his/her time to support the students and staff members during the 2024-2025 school year. Watch for more details on how you can get involved in the fall! Have a wonderful and safe summer!

Kick Off Day - Back to School Night
Please plan to come to MES on August 7th to pick up your child's 2024-2025 registration packet with forms that need updating for the upcoming school year. This day will be "drive through" style as in years past. All forms should be completed at home and returned to school on Back to School Night or the first day of school.
Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd 12:00 - 6:00
For incoming kindergarteners: this will be a time to pick up a packet, meet their teacher, and visit their classroom. Kindergarten teachers will reach out to parents to inform them of their child's classroom placement.
For incoming 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders: this will be a time to pick up a packet and receive a welcome letter from your child's teacher. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders will meet their teacher on Back-to-School Night.
Our Back to School Night is August 12th, and your child can meet their teacher and see their classroom. Back to School Night is from 5:15 - 6:30.
The first day of school will be Wednesday, August 14th - late start Wednesday.
POLICY ON TEACHER REQUESTS (Parent Input Form)
As we prepare for the 2024-25 school year, we would like to remind you of the policy of requesting teachers. Please know that if you would like to give us information about your child, there is a form available to download ON THE MES WEBSITE or in the office. This form is the only communication channel that will be accepted. The form will focus on the strengths and needs of your child. To stay in accordance with the district policy, you may include a teacher's name on the form as a parent request. There are never any guarantees for a teacher request because there are many variables that occur when we place students in classrooms for the following school year. We would ask that you trust our professional judgment on what is best for ALL children and want you to know that we take this process seriously. During the month of May, Mr. Hostetler will be meeting with each grade level to determine the placement of students for the 2024-25 school year; if you choose to fill out a form from the office it must be returned NO LATER than Friday, May 3, 2024. If you have specific questions, please call Mr. Hostetler at the MES office.
News from Mrs. Gleim, Our Nurse:
If your child has borrowed clothes from the clinic, please return those as soon as possible. As you're cleaning out the closets this spring, consider donating gently used clothes to the clinic. I can always use all sizes of pants.
News from Mrs. Frey, Our PE Teacher:
Our end of the year celebration will be a Field Day outdoors on Monday, May 20th. I will be asking for parent volunteers soon. Thank you for considering helping with this all school celebration.
News from Mrs. Davis, Our Librarian:
Please help your child return any library books that may be at home. Any lost books need to be paid for so that they can be replaced. Thank you for your help!
HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!
Morning Transportation Changes
If you have last minute transportation changes in the mornings (for example, on 2 hour delay days), then a call needs to be made to Transportation @ 574-825-9410 or to your child's bus driver.
2024-2025 Bus Transportation
Your efforts to keep Transportation updated with your student's bus needs helps us to provide efficient bus service for as many students as possible. Transportation changes can be submitted online, on our webpage. This includes indicating if your child will NO LONGER be a bus rider, as that will allow another student to ride, as we manage restricted student capacities and a shortage of bus drivers. If there are no changes from this year to the next, a new form is not required.
IF YOUR STUDENT 'S BUSING NEEDS CHANGE FOR NEXT YEAR, PLEASE SUBMIT A 2024-2025 TRANSPORTATION REQUEST FORM.
Also, please remember to have requests submitted by July 19, 2024. Any change made after that date WILL NOT BE GUARANTEED A BUS RIDE ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.

Thank you third graders and Mr. Loar, for a wonderful concert!
Summer is almost here! We hope you had a great spring break and are settling in for the last few weeks of school. We are looking forward to summer, but not before we celebrate our MES team during STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK, which is May 6-10! We have many special things planned for our staff but feel free to show them you appreciate them in your own way as well! That week is also the book fair during school hours.
Thank you to everyone who supported our school at the Hacienda Give Back Night. We are always thankful for everyone's support. We have one PTO meeting left of the school year and we would love it if you could join us! We hope everyone enjoys the next weeks of Spring, and don't forget to mention Middlebury Elementary at Old Hoosier on the first Thursday of the month to help support our school!
This month's winner of the Middie Staff Spotlight is one of our cafeteria workers, Leah Bontrager. The student who nominated Leah said, "She makes us good food!" Here is what Leah has to say about herself:
"I am the oldest of four kids. My brother, Adrian, is 14, and my two little sisters, Ava and Elianna, are 7 and 4. I have worked for MES for almost a year and a half. I am the cook in the cafeteria. I really enjoy watching the kids grow and learn throughout the year. During the summer I enjoy playing softball, camping, and swimming."
Thank you, Leah, for all the hard work you do keeping our kids fed! We appreciate you and your kindness!
