News from Mr. Hostetler, our Principal

We are in the season of Fall already! I love the crisp air in the morning and the changing colors of our leaves. Fall brings cooler weather so make sure your children come to school with warm clothes and jackets.

Parent/Teacher conferences will be on Monday, October 21st and Wednesday, October 23rd. More information will be coming home with your child. Please take the time to meet with your child's teacher. This is a wonderful opportunity to see how your child is growing at school.

AFTERNOON PICKUP - please let the office know if someone other than a parent/guardian will be picking up your child. We cannot send a child with someone unless it has been approved by you.

WELCOME NEW STAFF MEMBERS!! Melina Islas - instructional assistant, Ralph Borkholder - custodial staff, Elizabeth Graber - instructional assistant, and Faith Christner - cafeteria.

School Breakfast

Mornings can be rushed, but it is important to make time for breakfast. Children can benefit from the School Breakfast Program! Studies show that school breakfast can raise test scores while improving classroom attentiveness and behavior. Make sure your kids start the school day with a healthy meal!

NEWS FROM OUR NURSE, MRS. GLEIM

If your child is sick, please KEEP THEM HOME! Remember - students must not have had a fever (below 100.4), vomited, or had diarrhea for 24 hours (without the help of medicine) before they may return to school.

The MOBILE DENTIST is coming on October 31st. Every student is able to take advantage of this convenient service. They accept insurance, private pay, and even have grant assistance available. Sign up forms were in everyone's gray back-to-school folder. If you need another copy, call the office or click here to sign up online.

Please keep a seasonally appropriate CHANGE OF CLOTHES in your child's backpack. Accidents, spills, & playground messes are all possible and I may not have the right size to loan your child.

Middlebury Schools needs substitute nurses!! If you or someone you know would be interested I'd be happy to talk about it with you!

PTO

Hello from everyone at MES PTO! We wanted to thank everyone for their participation in this year’s annual mum fundraiser. The flowers were beautiful, and we are always thankful to start off the school year with this event! We will be busy this month preparing for the October book fair and family night, parent teacher conferences, and a November Calendar Fundraiser, so look for further information about those events to come! Family Fun night will be Tuesday October 15, starting at 6 PM with more information to come. If you shop at Harding’s, information has been sent home to register to support your school by contributing some of your purchase back to the school! Every contribution helps make our school a better place! If you want to learn more and get involved with PTO the next meeting is scheduled for October 16th, at 3:30 at the school, with childcare available for school-aged children. If you can’t attend but want to contribute in another way, please notify the school and we will find a way to have you included. We hope you have a great rest of the month and don’t forget to mention Middlebury Elementary at Old Hoosier on the first Thursday of the month to help support our school!

Middie Staff Spotlight

Our Middie Spotlight staff member for September was Mrs. Jantzi! She is a great asset to MES and the students sure do appreciate her. Make sure to say hi when you see Mrs. Jantzi in the hallway!

Here is a little about Mrs. Jantzi:

I am starting my 34th year at MES!  I am married and have two kids.  I also have one grandson who is a lot of fun to be around.  He likes riding around the field with me on the four-wheeler (especially in the mud puddles).  I have horses and enjoy trail riding them with friends.  My favorite thing about MES is spending time with kids and watching them getting excited when they make a connection with a friend or learn something new.  I like to drink raspberry lemonade.  My favorite sweet is a toss-up between cherry cheesecake or fresh baked chocolate chip cookies!
