April 2024

Dear OVE Families,

I hope everyone has a fantastic spring break and enjoys the extra day off on Monday, April 8th for the Solar Eclipse. Shortly after returning to school, the kindergarten students will be performing their music program on Thursday, April 11th!

The ILEARN testing window opens the third full week in April. Our 3rd grade students will begin testing on Tuesday, April 16th with the English/Language Arts Computer Adaptive Test and we are hopeful to finish the final assessment, the Math Performance Task Test, on Thursday, April 25th. The third grade teachers have spent a considerable amount of time building stamina with our students and preparing them for the level of rigor that is incorporated within this assessment. Please see the ILEARN for Families flier that gives you a better sense of testing format, scoring timelines and links to other additional state resources. If at all possible, please make certain that your student is well rested and arrives at school on time daily during the testing window. As always, encourage your child to put forth their best effort and reassure them that they are prepared and ready to do a great job!

The PTO BOGO Scholastic Book Fair also kicks off the week of April 15th. Students will be visiting the book fair to make “wish lists” on Monday and Tuesday, and shopping will take place on Wednesday and Thursday. The ‘Buy one get one’ promotion is an amazing opportunity to build up your home library and spoil your student for having an awesome year! Parents are invited to shop with their child after school on Thursday, April 18th from 2:15 - 6:00.

Fittingly, April is also the time of the year where we invite our incoming Eagles to kindergarten round-up. This will take place on Thursday, April 18th, and we will run two sessions, one from 3:00-4:00 and another from 5:00-6:00.  Please be on the lookout for communication from the kindergarten team requesting that you sign your student up for one of the two time slots. I cannot wait to welcome our new families and meet our future Class of 2037 Northridge Raiders!

Spring always has me thinking about new beginnings, growth and development. It is awesome to reflect on how far our students have come since August, and I am equally excited to witness their future accomplishments during the last two months of the 23-24 school. Thank you for your continued support and active involvement in your student’s education. As always, if you have questions, suggestions or feedback, please feel free to reach out directly to me either by phone (574-825-5405)  or email (martink@mcsin-k12.org).

Fly Eagles Fly,

Mr. Martin, Principal
