April 2025

Dear OVE Families,

Thank you to all the parents and guardians who encouraged their students to achieve their class reading goals during all four weeks of the SB Cubs Reading Challenge. I’m super excited for the ball game on May 9th and hope to see many of our families and students in attendance.

April promises to be a busy and exciting month at OVE! We’ll jump right into the action with PTO Skate Night on April 1st, followed by Spring Break, which begins on Friday, April 4th. We hope everyone enjoys a safe and restful break! When we return, the fun continues with the PTO Book Fair during the first week back, giving students and families a chance to pick out some fun new reads.

Later in the month, we’ll welcome our future Eagles during Kindergarten Round-Up on Thursday, April 17th. Similar to last year, we’ll offer two sessions: one from 3:00 – 4:00 PM and another from 5:00 – 6:00 PM. If you have a child who will turn 5 years old by August 1st, please register them online or contact the school office. We are thrilled to meet our newest Eagles and the future Class of 2038 Northridge Raiders!

Just a quick reminder that there will be no school on April 18th in observance of Good Friday.

The following week, our third-grade students will begin ILEARN testing. We aim to complete ELA testing during the first week (April 22nd–24th) and follow up with math assessments the next week (April 29th–May 1st). The ILEARN assessments provide students the chance to apply and demonstrate the skills they’ve learned throughout the year. Testing requires focus and sustained effort, so if you have a third-grade student, please encourage them to get plenty of rest and attend school regularly and on time to avoid make-up testing.

It’s hard to believe we are just two months away from wrapping up another school year! We still have many important academic tasks and fun activities ahead.

As always, feel free to reach out to me by phone at (574) 825-5405 or email at martink@mcsin-k12.org with any questions, suggestions or concerns.

Thank you for your continued support!

Fly Eagles Fly,

Mr. Martin, Principal

Lesson Topics

Students are continuing to learn self-regulation through the lens of TBRI and Zones of Regulation. Our most recent focus across all grades has been empathy. Students are learning about how our own experiences with the different "zones" can build on our awareness of how others are feeling and open a window of understanding for others. Empathy allows us to give others "permission" to feel what they feel. All of our feelings matter and compassion not only creates safety for others, it makes OVE a GREAT place to be!!

Nurse Notes

Please make sure your child has an extra set of clothes in their locker. We are out of clothes in the clinic and have had many students get wet during recess.

If your child borrows clothes from the clinic please make sure to launder and return clothing back to the clinic.

If you have pants or socks that your child has outgrown please consider donating them to the OVE clinic.

Please make sure to communicate any medical conditions your child may have with our nurse. This also includes any medications that are taken at home.

If you would like to be notified of your child's nurse visits please sign up for a SchoolCare account. This can be found in your Parent PowerSchool account. If you need assistance with signing up, please contact our nurse!

OVE parents, did you know that you can easily deposit money into your student’s meal account? When you register with the Linq Connect website, you can make deposits, set up recurring deposits, OR just use the website to monitor what your child is purchasing in the OVE cafeteria. You can also set up notifications to let you know when your child’s balance is low. In addition, you can apply for free or reduced meals on the same website at any time during the school year. Go to linqconnect.com from any computer, tablet or mobile device and create a free account. There is also a mobile app available in the Google Play Store and Apple Store.
