January 2025

Dear OVE Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season filled with joy and relaxation. As we welcome the New Year, we are excited to continue growing and learning together in 2025!

On January 8th, second-quarter report cards will be available online through the PowerSchool App. Additionally, a hard copy will be sent home with your student.

We’ll hit the ground running in January! All K-2 students will complete round #2 of the dyslexia screener during the first week back. Our school-wide NWEA testing window begins the week of January 13th, and 3rd grade students will take the second ELA ILEARN Checkpoint on January 14th. The Math ILEARN Checkpoint will follow from January 27th-31st. Please do your best to ensure your student is present and on time each day, as consistent attendance is key to their success.

We’re excited to kick off the New Year with our “Poppin’ Into the New Year Attendance Challenge!” In the past, grade levels competed to fill their own popcorn buckets. This year, we’re working together as one school to fill a single OVE bucket! Each day we achieve a 96% or higher attendance rate, we’ll add a popped kernel to our bucket. Our goal is to earn 14 kernels by the end of January (out of the 19 school days). Once we reach our goal, we’ll celebrate with an all-school popcorn party during lunch!

The Indiana Department of Education continues to emphasize the importance of student attendance, with a goal of maintaining at least a 96% attendance rate. With 180 days in the academic year, this allows for up to 8 absences without negatively impacting your student’s attendance record. Please note that the state does not differentiate between excused, unexcused, or vacation days. As always, if your student is ill, we want them to stay home and rest. However, if your child is absent for three or more consecutive days, a doctor’s note is required upon their return.

Thank you for the continued opportunity to partner with you in your student’s education. We greatly value our OVE families, and your support is crucial to the success of our students. If you have any questions, suggestions, or feedback, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me by phone at (574) 825-5405 or email at martink@mcsin-k12.org.

Let’s make this a fantastic New Year at OVE!

Fly Eagles Fly,

Mr. Martin, Principal

Please make sure to send in snow gear with your child. If a student does not have snow boots/pants they will need to stay on the black top at recess. Please contact the office if you are needing assistance in providing your child with outdoor gear. We are happy to help!

Please make sure to communicate any medical conditions your child may have with our nurse. This also includes any medications that are taken at home.

If you would like to be notified of your child's nurse visits please sign up for a SchoolCare account. This can be found in your Parent PowerSchool account. If you need assistance with signing up, please contact our nurse!

Student Meal Accounts

OVE parents, did you know that you can easily deposit money into your student’s meal account? When you register with the Linq Connect website, you can make deposits, set up recurring deposits, OR just use the website to monitor what your child is purchasing in the OVE cafeteria. You can also set up notifications to let you know when your child’s balance is low. In addition, you can apply for free or reduced meals on the same website at any time during the school year. Go to linqconnect.com from any computer, tablet or mobile device and create a free account. There is also a mobile app available in the Google Play Store and Apple Store. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Gini Bennett, Bookkeeper, at 574-825-5094.
