May 2024

Dear OVE Families,

May is just around the corner and that means we are approaching the final month of the school year. The first full week of May marks the beginning of our spring NWEA testing window. Your student will be completing math and reading tests that track growth and achievement throughout the school year. Please encourage your child to do their best work to help us get an accurate picture of where they stand as we start designing class lists for the 2024-2025 school year.

May 6th - May 10th is also celebrated as teacher/staff appreciation week. The entire staff at OVE invests so much time and effort into every position within the building. Again, we have partnered with our amazing PTO to provide many yummy and fun treats as a way to thank everyone for their dedicated work. If you do have an opportunity and feel so inclined, I would encourage you to send them a kind note or share a simple “thank you” for a job well done. We have fantastic people at OVE, and I want them to know how appreciated they truly are for everything they pour into our students and our school!

As we move through the month, there are many fun activities, fieldtrips, and celebrations taking place at each grade level. Please share in the excitement with your student. A continuous goal of mine is to create and maintain a learning environment that is safe, predictable and fun. I’m happy to report that most of our students love coming to school and they are extremely proud of their accomplishments. Stay tuned to the activity calendar and thank you in advance for continuing to be an active participant in your student’s education.

Thank you again for all you do to support OVE! As always, feel free to reach out directly to me with any questions or concerns.

Summer Wellness Practices!

Summer is such a great time!  No school means less work, right?  Well, one thing I have learned is that kids need structure, predictability, and consistency.  Summertime can mean that these things are not as easily managed.  I speak from experience!

Here are a few suggestions:

  1. Create a summer schedule.  Maybe even post your “agenda” somewhere for your kids to look at.  We can help them prepare for the day ahead just like at school.

  2. Eat a meal together once a day.  Kids love this time as a family.

  3. Plan some one-on-one time with your child - you won’t regret it!

  4. Please encourage your child to move their bodies and join them when possible.

  5. Read, Read, Read.  *The teacher in me can’t help but add that one!

It has been my pleasure to work in classrooms, in small groups, and with individuals this year at OVE.  Thank you for trusting me to walk alongside you and your family this year.  I look forward to all the possibilities in the 2024-2025 school year!

    ~Mrs. Palmer

Student Meal Accounts

OVE parents, did you know that you can easily deposit money into your student’s meal account? When you register with the Linq Connect website, you can make deposits, set up recurring deposits, OR just use the website to monitor what your child is purchasing in the OVE cafeteria. You can also set up notifications to let you know when your child’s balance is low. In addition, you can apply for free or reduced meals on the same website at any time during the school year. Go to linqconnect.com from any computer, tablet or mobile device and create a free account. There is also a mobile app available in the Google Play Store and Apple Store. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Gini Bennett, Bookkeeper, at 574-825-5094.

2024/2025 Bus Information

TRF's for the 24-25 school year will be due on July 19, 2024. Any TRF received after that point is not guaranteed to be set up for the first day of school.

As usual, the busing setup for each student will carry from the end of this school year to the start of the 24-25 year. Parents do NOT need to submit a new TRF if nothing is changing from one year to the next.
