May 2025

Dear OVE Families,

It’s hard to believe we’ve already reached the final month of the school year! I’m filled with excitement as I reflect on another fantastic year, full of accomplishments and milestones. This success is a direct result of our dedicated staff, supportive parents, and incredible students. On a personal note, it’s bittersweet knowing that my daughter will no longer be here with me at OVE next year. However, like all of you, I have complete trust and confidence in the amazing teachers, administrators, and staff that make up Middlebury Schools.

The beginning of May also marks the opening of the spring NWEA testing window for our K–2 students. We are aiming to complete testing during the first week, from May 5th through May 9th. Please make every effort to ensure your child is present each day to help avoid the need for make-up testing. These assessments provide important data that we use to help create and balance class lists for next school year.

Fittingly, the first week of May is also nationally recognized as Teacher Appreciation Week. Teaching truly is a calling—one that extends far beyond the school day. Even when they are not physically at school, teachers are planning, learning, communicating, and thinking about their students. If you have a moment, please take the time to share a message of gratitude with your child’s teacher. A simple thank-you can mean so much and can provide the encouragement they need during this busy time of year.

As we approach the end of the school year, we have many exciting events planned, including field trips, concerts, Field Day, the Talent Show, and our traditional third-grade graduation walk. I can personally attest that time passes quickly and these moments are truly fleeting, even having had the incredible blessing of being in the same building as my own child. Life can be busy, but be sure to slow down and cherish these precious memories!

Stay turned to the activity calendars and our OVE Facebook page for event updates and listings. Thank you for your continued involvement and support. As always, feel free to reach out to me by phone at (574) 825-5405 or email at martink@mcsin-k12.org with any questions, suggestions or concerns.

Lesson Topics

Our final lessons of the year concluded our work relating to TBRI. These lessons challenged students to remember that we are all precious and valuable, even when we make mistakes. They learned about "re-dos" and how to apologize sincerely when trying to make things right. This concept is key when working to allow students the space to realize that when our feelings turn red and our motor is running fast, we still deserve opportunities to learn from our mistakes. After all, even grown-ups make mistakes, and mistakes help us do better next time!

My last lesson in classrooms will be a closing to all we have learned this year, and how much we still have to look forward to in the future. For our K-2 kiddos, the adventure continues next year at OVE. For our third graders, the sky is the limit as we watch our Eagles soar beyond the walls of OVE. It has been my privilege to be a part of every one of your students' lives. I truly have the best job ever!!

Nurse Notes

Please make sure your child has an extra set of clothes in their locker. We are out of clothes in the clinic and have had many students get wet during recess.

If your child borrows clothes from the clinic please make sure to launder and return clothing back to the clinic.

If you have pants or socks that your child has outgrown please consider donating them to the OVE clinic.

Please make sure to communicate any medical conditions your child may have with our nurse. This also includes any medications that are taken at home.

If you would like to be notified of your child's nurse visits please sign up for a SchoolCare account. This can be found in your Parent PowerSchool account. If you need assistance with signing up, please contact our nurse!
