March 2024

Dear OVE Families,

A great big thank you goes out to all parents and guardians that helped students keep track of their reading minutes and secure online donations for the PTO Read-A-Thon. It was wonderful to see many of you at the PTO carnival on March 2nd! THANK YOU to our PTO members who put in so much work to make the carnival amazing! Students had an absolute blast hanging out with their friends, playing games and winning prizes!

I do know that a number of students and families (including my own) were really hit hard with illnesses during the month of February. I’m so hopeful that as we head into spring, warm weather and good health will be in our fortunes.  If your kiddo does not feel well, please keep them at home, however, if they are well, please make sure they are in regular attendance. Consistency and predictability are so important for our young Eagle learners!

This month  also marks the beginning of IREAD testing for our 2nd and 3rd grade students. Both grade levels are scheduled to begin testing on Monday, March 4th and we hope to have all testing completed by Friday, March 8th. The test segments now have to be given in order, therefore, it is extremely important that all students are on time and present during the testing window. We do ask that students are well rested, eat a good breakfast and come ready to do their personal best!

March 15th  marks the end of the third grading period. Report cards will be available for online viewing on March 20th-we will also send home a paper copy with students. Spring P/T conferences are scheduled to take place on March 21st  from 3:00-6:00. Similar to last year, sign ups can be completed online by visiting the OVE school website and scrolling down to the “News” section.

Also, please remember the calendar change and that we are in session on March 22nd!

Thank you for your continued support and active involvement in your student’s education. As always, if you have questions, suggestions or feedback, please feel free to reach out directly to me either by phone (574-825-5405)  or email (martink@mcsin-k12.org).

Mr. Martin, Principal

I can’t believe how fast the month of February seemed!! Spring is in sight…thank goodness!

Family Wellness Practices!

Body Sensations Have you ever noticed your body responding to stress?  Maybe your head hurts, or you get a stomach ache.  Maybe you clench your jaw (my personal favorite), or furrow your brow without even realizing it.  When we go through stress, anxiety, worry; even anticipation, it is a whole-body experience! Noticing these sensations can be the first step in taking charge of our nervous systems!

Resetting our Amygdala The Amygdala is at the emotional center of our brain.  It is crucial for survival as it is like our body’s natural alarm system.  But, it can misfire - sending a message of fight, flight, or freeze when there isn’t a reason for alarm.  Our nervous system doesn’t know the difference and it just responds…and this looks and feels different for all of us.

Our Super Power Brains! The power of learning about our brains is that we CAN take charge!  When we notice what is happening with our body sensations, we can act and take steps to stop the alarm from taking over!

Nurse Notes

  • Please make sure students are dressed appropriately. The weather has been all over the place! Dressing students in layers ensures they are prepared for our ever changing weather. Students should have coats, hats, and gloves with them on a daily basis.

  • Please pack a change of clothes with students. Accidents happen, and we are running low on pants.

  • We are still in need of boys and girls pants (sizes 5-9, especially 5-7). If you have any gently used clothes that you would like to donate, we would appreciate it!

  • If your child has borrowed clothes from the the clinic please make sure to wash and return back to the nurse.

Student Meal Accounts

OVE parents, did you know that you can easily deposit money into your student’s meal account? When you register with the Linq Connect website, you can make deposits, set up recurring deposits, OR just use the website to monitor what your child is purchasing in the OVE cafeteria. You can also set up notifications to let you know when your child’s balance is low. In addition, you can apply for free or reduced meals on the same website at any time during the school year. Go to linqconnect.com from any computer, tablet or mobile device and create a free account. There is also a mobile app available in the Google Play Store and Apple Store. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Gini Bennett, Bookkeeper, at 574-825-5094.
