A note from Mr. Kominowski...
One of the things that makes York so special is the emphasis we put on character. We have our 4 Habits of Scholarship (respect, integrity, responsibility, and grit) that we recognize every other Friday. These students have demonstrated one of these habits and have been officially recognized by a staff member. We then take their picture and make adjustments to their Crew Shirt to reflect their accomplishments. These shirts are given to every student starting in kindergarten and are added to throughout their years here at York. Student Council passed out those shirts a few weeks ago. When you see one of these York shirts around, please make sure to congratulate the student on their accomplishments. So often today, we have such a focus on academics that we lost sight of some of those other accomplishments that will mean just as much in the long run! (a star means they've been recognized for that Habit multiple times)!
Transportation News...
To help make sure your student does not miss the bus, especially as mornings are darker now, please remember that the school policy states the students should be waiting outside, at the bus stop, 10 minutes before their scheduled pick up time. If the student is not at the bus stop, it is possible they will be passed by. Bus routes are not designed to include time to go back and pick up missed students. Thank you for your help in this matter.
Two Hour Delay/School Closures:
If it becomes necessary to delay the opening of school due to inclement weather, the following procedure will be followed:
Bus routes will run two hours later than usual. Students can be dropped off at 9:20 AM and the school tardy bell will ring at 9:45 AM, even if the two hour delay is on a Wednesday.
MCS will place a call to your home updating you on school delays and closures. Please make sure the office has your most up to date information.
Recess
With changing weather, we appreciate your help in making sure your child dresses appropriately for the outside weather. We will go outside when the wind chill is at or above 16 degrees.
We are not able to keep your child indoors for recess for any reason without a doctor's note. The fresh air and exercise is so good for children and helps them focus better when back inside.
Grandparent's Day
Grandparent's day is coming up on Tuesday, November 26th. **New this year, we are asking that all grandparent's complete a volunteer background check. Information can be sent to the school with the form sent home or by visiting our school's website at the link below. We are asking that all information and RSVP's be returned to the school by Friday, November 8th.

Clinic News...
The clinic is in DESPERATE need of gently used boys and girls pants sizes 5-6, 7-8, 10-12, 14-16.
We have also loaned out several pairs of pants, underwear, and other clothing that has not been returned. Please look at your child's clothing and return items that belong to the school.
We also strongly encourage you to pack extra clothing in your child's backpacks for those unexpected accidents. Thank you!
PTO News....
Many hands make light work! The PTO has started planning for this year's annual auction on February 8th. Many volunteers are needed to make this event a success- individuals are needed to make phone calls, create classroom projects, organize classroom baskets, and more... If you would be interested in any way, please contact us: yorkptopres@gmail.com
